Does my ex have malicious parent syndrome?

As a single parent, it's likely that you simply want the best for your child. If the best for your child means sharing custody with your ex, then you are probably willing to deal with this. However, it can be very frustrating when you are pursuing the best for your child while the other parent is not. If your ex is always acting in a spiteful and vindictive manner toward you, they may have malicious parent syndrome.

Malicious parent syndrome is not a medically recognized mental health condition, but it does describe a certain set of behaviors that are consistent in many parents. The following are some of the common behaviors exhibited by those with malicious parent syndrome.

Seeks to deny visitation for no good reason

If the custodial parent is adamant that you should not gain any visitation rights even though they have no good reason to argue this, they may have malicious parent syndrome. They may be willing to lie in court or go through endless legal proceedings to prevent you from gaining custody.

Lies to their children

Those with malicious parent syndrome may also lie to their children about the other parent's nature. They may accuse you of doing terrible things to change your child's perception of you.

Deprives their children of their needs to achieve their malicious goals

Malicious parents put their own desires of gaining custody over the true needs of their children. This shows that they are not truly acting in the best interests of their children.

Courts always seek to rule in the best interests of the child. Therefore, by pointing out the malicious behavior executed by your ex, you may be successful in gaining custody.
